McGovern Outdoor is an American Heritage brand born out of love for our National Parks.
The love affair started with a month-long road trip with a friend in 1990. Looking up into the starry night from our little dome tent in the Grand Canyon was a moment that changed me forever and became the inspiration for everything to come.
During the next 12 years, my family and I explored the National Parks as much as we could, sharing our love of the outdoors and nature with our children. Along the way, we started a collection of free park maps. In 2012, I set out to decorate our house with artistic maps of our most treasured places. Unable to find what I was looking for, I began to create my own. Our first beautifully rendered vintage style map of Grand Teton National Park was designed, printed, framed, and happily hung up in our new home. It got rave reviews from our friends who asked me to make more for them.
As a way to say thanks to the places that had given us so much enjoyment, I sent an additional map to Grand Teton National Park as a gift. They liked it so much, they encouraged me to come exhibit at the National Park Service show. We sold out of all of our maps at that first show and started using our popular designs in innovative ways to create shirts, mugs, bandanas, socks, blankets, scarves, bags, and beyond. The rest is history.
McGovern Outdoor is proudly partnered with all of the National Parks. Each of our designs is approved by an interpretive National Park ranger for authenticity. All-women led, our company surpasses other brands with its originality and uniquely intricate designs.
Garnering stewardship, passion, exploration, authenticity, and connectedness, McGovern Outdoor creates wondrous vintage products to help keep the parks, and the memories it makes, close to people’s hearts. In doing so, we hope to build a growing community of stewards with a passion for our wild places.
