The official Park bandana approved by the National Park Service for Garden of the Gods. 

The Garden of the Gods sedimentary rock layers are geologically remarkable because they are vertical or even beyond vertical. This allows visitors to study rock that is usually buried by layers of sediment that are almost a mile thick. The park's formations were created by millions of years of horizontal layers of gravel, sand, and ocean deposits that were uplifted and brought to the surface by mountain-building events. This resulted in rocks that are slanted, pushed around, and stood up. For example, Balanced Rock at the park's south end was formed when erosive processes removed softer layers near its base.
